Was Epping Viking or Saxon? Year 3 found out!
This week Year 3 thoroughly enjoyed a virtual visit to the Epping Forest District Museum to learn about the Vikings and our local area. We found out about the clashes and truces between Vikings and Saxons, and how these effected the names of local areas including Epping, Loughton and North Weald.
We were then taken through a collection of exciting locally recovered Viking artefacts which gave us clues about who the Vikings were and what it was like to be a Viking. We now know that even though our local area was considered Viking territory, it was largely populated by Saxons by the many clues found over the years.
This whole experience has gotten us really excited to continue exploring our topic and build our very own Viking longships. Watch this space to see how they turn out!
