Mathematics Beyond the Classroom

We believe mathematics should be engaging, enjoyable and relevant to children's lives.

Throughout the year, pupils take part in a range of enrichment opportunities that promote enthusiasm for mathematics and demonstrate its real-world applications.

National Numeracy Day

Each year, we participate in National Numeracy Day to celebrate the importance of numeracy in everyday life. Pupils take part in engaging mathematical activities that showcase how mathematics can be creative, practical and enjoyable. In 2026, children created mathematics-inspired artwork as part of our celebrations.

Mathematics Competitions

We provide opportunities for pupils to challenge themselves through national mathematics competitions.

These include:

  • Primary Maths Challenge for high-attaining mathematicians in Years 5 and 6
  • First Maths Challenge for high-attaining mathematicians in Years 3 and 4

These competitions encourage resilience, problem-solving and deeper mathematical thinking.

Enterprise Project

Each year, Year 6 pupils participate in the Virgin Money Make £5 Grow project. This enterprise initiative provides children with opportunities to apply their mathematical knowledge in real-life contexts whilst developing financial awareness, teamwork and entrepreneurial skills.
